Tata Steel, Kalinganagar - HSM Roll Shop Project
Context:
Arcum Engineering executed an EPC turnkey project for setting up the Roll Shop of the HSM at Tata Steel, Kalinganagar Plant. The project was in consortium with our Principal Tenova-Pomini.Scope:
The scope included complete mechanical/structural works, electrical systems, and utilities.Arcum was responsible for full project execution from basic design through commissioning, with total fabrication of 378 tons and erection of 3,792 tons.
Our Role As a Local Supply Partner
Arcum Engineering was responsible for local supply of various critical components and infrastructure including:
Electrical
- Power distribution board (PDB), lighting transformer, and 80 KVA UPS with batteries.
- UPS distribution board (UPSDB).
- Main light distribution board (MLDB).
- Emergency light distribution board (ELDB).
- Complete illumination systems, including light fittings and SLDB/LDB.
- Cable trays, supports, glands, and plates.
- Fiber optical cables for L2/L3 networks.
- Power and welding sockets, earthing, and lighting protection systems.
Mechanical/Structural
- Hydraulic jacks for lifting inertia blocks of roll grinders
- Steel racks and pads for:
- Automatic area
- Work roll grinder.
- Back-up roll grinder.
- WR (Work Roll) de-chocker.
- BUR (Back-Up Roll) de-chocker.
- Beam and girder for automatic loader.
- Rail base plate, rails, and clips for the automatic loader.
- Industrial pipelines for air and water.
- Chocks & bearing washing stand with pipelines.
- Roll lifting device.
- Steel tanks for grinder pits.
- Post-embedded parts for grinders and de-chockers.
- Floor plates, trench covers, staircases, handrails, and safety fences with doors.
- Discharge channels, pipe racks, and bridges.
- Compressed air hand grinders and pipe supports.
- Bearing handling tackles, valves, flanges, and strainers.
AC/Ventilation/Others
- Pre-fab electrical control rooms with AC.
- Central AC system for the LCSS building.
- Chiller, cooling tower, air handling units, and package AC units.
- First fill oils and lubricants.
- LT tunnel ventilation systems and passive fire protection systems.
- Fire detection and alarm systems.
- Utility pipelines with pipe racks, cleaning cabin, and air dryers with receivers.
Our Role as The Commissioning Partner
Arcum Engineering served as the comprehensive service and commissioning partner for the Roll Shop at Tata Steel, Kalinganagar Plant project for our principal Tenova-Pomini.
This included the erection, testing, and commissioning of critical rolling mill equipment like roll grinders, automatic loaders, de-chockers, and their supporting systems.

Equipment Installation
- Complete erection, testing and commissioning of roll shop equipment including grinders, loaders, de-chockers, washing machines, and utility systems
Project Management
- Skilled manpower deployment (operators, technicians, supervisors)
- Site management including material handling, storage, and security
- Daily progress monitoring and coordination with customer/consultant
Quality & Compliance
- Implementation of quality standards (WPS, PQR, QAP)
- Conducting cold tests and performance guarantee tests
- Documentation for certification and payment milestones

- This end-to-end service approach ensured successful commissioning of the Roll Shop at Tata Steel, Kalinganagar HSM Roll Shop.
