SAIL, Bokaro - CRM Roll Grinding and Bearing Shop Project
Context:
Arcum Engineering executed an EPC turnkey project for setting up the Roll Grinding and Bearing Shop of the new CRM-III at SAIL’s Bokaro Steel Plant. The project was in consortium with our Principal Tenova-Pomini.Scope:
The scope included complete mechanical/structural works, electrical systems, and utilities.Arcum was responsible for full project execution from basic design through commissioning, with total fabrication of 419 tons and erection of 3,287 tons.
Our Role As a Local Supply Partner
Electrical
- Complete power distribution systems including PDB, PCC
- 11KV, 2MVA dry type transformer and VCB isolator
- UPS systems with batteries
- Lighting systems and distribution boards
- Cable management systems and fiber optic cables
- Earthing and protection systems
Mechanical/Structural
- Hydraulic jacks for lifting inertia blocks of roll grinders
- Steel racks and pads (including specialized ones with polymer liners for grinding wheels)
- Support structures like beams and girders for automatic loaders
- Rail systems and mounting equipment
- Industrial pipelines, valves, and supports
- Safety infrastructure like fences, handrails, and floor plates
- Handling equipment for rolls and bearings
AC/Ventilation/Others
- Pre-fabricated electrical control room with AC
- Central AC system for LCSS building
- Cooling towers and air handling units
- Fire fighting and detection systems
- First fill oils and lubricants
Our Role as The Commissioning Partner
Arcum Engineering served as the comprehensive service and commissioning partner for the Roll Grinding and Bearing Shop at SAIL’s Bokaro Steel Plant CRM-III project for our principal Tenova-Pomini.
This included the erection, testing, and commissioning of critical rolling mill equipment like roll grinders, automatic loaders, de-chockers, and their supporting systems.
Equipment Installation
- Complete erection, testing and commissioning of roll shop equipment including grinders, loaders, de-chockers, washing machines, and utility systems
Project Management
- Skilled manpower deployment (operators, technicians, supervisors)
- Site management including material handling, storage, and security
- Daily progress monitoring and coordination with customer/consultant
Quality & Compliance
- Implementation of quality standards (WPS, PQR, QAP)
- Conducting cold tests and performance guarantee tests
- Documentation for certification and payment milestones
Result
- The project involved erecting 2,750 tons of equipment, managed end-to-end from installation through to final commissioning and handover.
