Sludge mixers

Flowserve (Halberg)’s MFS sludge mixers are renowned for their energy efficiency and have been the time-tested technology for mixing sludges in anaerobic digesters for over 60 years. Continuously improved, these mixers represent state-of-the-art technology, with more than 750 sewage treatment plants worldwide, including ultra-large installations, equipped with about 1250 of Flowserve (Halberg)’s mixers—a testament to their experience and expertise. The MFS sludge mixer is vertically installed in the digester and designed for reversible operation, forcing the sludge in either direction through the central draft tube, thereby eliminating issues in critical digester areas and ensuring optimal biogas yield. In upward operation, the rotating splash disc destroys the supernatant sludge layer and counteracts foam formation. In downward operation, the propeller forces coarse floating residue and foams through the draft tube to the digester bottom, agitating settled sludge and returning it to the active process area. Flowserve (Halberg)’s sludge mixers provide operational flexibility, allowing adjustments to accommodate changes in sludge amount, composition, or foam formation. The mixers enhance biogas production, increasing it by approximately 30%, from 0.7 cubic meters to 1 cubic meter of biogas per cubic meter of raw sludge in 24 hours, depending on the raw sludge’s consistency. Flowserve (Halberg) offers the know-how, safety, and reliability required for equipping digesters with internal circulation, ensuring optimal biogas production.
